Arrived in Paris yesterday. Fascinating place. Heres a fee things that caught my attention.... - Police wear black, compared to blue in Australia. There were many of them walking at the airport and a few walking around with machine guns at the train station, which was an unusual sight for me. - Saw a mouse inside a place near the airport. He (or she) didnt seem to care that he was clearly visible. It reminded me of cartoons with French mice and cheese, probably because I was eating a cheeseburger - Paris is filled with apartment buildings, most looked about 5 stories high. Most looked old, but quaint. - The colours reminded me of Russia a little. Its interesting how different the colours. Its something I noticed when I was loving in Japan. - The bus from the airport in Paris drove very close to a truck. Really close, while at about 60 km. Both drivers were comfortable with the distance between them. Thats not something I have ever seen in Australia. - From the bus I noticed a lot of shacks near a freeway, which looked like temporary housing for the homeless. - Some people seemed to carry more in the front seat of their cars. Saw one passenger seat fully loaded with stuff. - Saw a few American fast food restaurants (MacDonalds, KFC etc.). - A French guy sitting behind me on the bus was quietly singing English songs being played on the bus radio - I like that most buildings here are made of brick. - Lots of deciduous trees (without leaves) line the streets, in small patches of dirt between the concrete - Lots of cafes - Most people are dressed more conservatively than I expected, wearing black or dark colours. They had probably just finished work. - Seemed true that some French people avoid using English, but most people I spoke to were friendly. Exchanged email addresses with a cute French girl at a bus stop. :D - Bought a 63 euro ticket and nobody even bothered to check it at the other end, which was interesting. - My friends place (where i am staying) is super super cool. It looks like the place is 400 years old, 2 stories, right beside a river, nice garden and massive caves in the back yard. You could easily live in them. - Taking a while to be comfortable with travelling on the wrong side of the road. - Got drunk last night (really nice beer). Woke up with a hangover. - Recovered from jet lag. Feeling great. Enjoying France! :)
