A public company does not have the same incentives as a private company: He added ABC managing director Mark Scott had a tougher job running a publicly-funded broadcaster “in many respects” than a privately-funded one because the ABC didn’t have “that KPI (key performance indicator) of the profit and loss and shareholders “driving efficiencies”. “A business like the ABC, which basically gets a cheque from the government every year, doesn’t have those same pressures,” he said. “So it’s much harder to run it in a mean, lean fighting marching type of way. That’s a fact; that is a fact and why I’ve got this efficiency audit going on at the moment.”
