You have to love Mauritian Derivers. So this is the story. This afternoon I went for a routine training ride on my bike. I had just left town and was about to exit the last of the residential areas. Next thing, this guy in a white bakkie accelerates to pass me, stops in the middle of the road, and then decides to reverse. At this this point I’m going for a new record, so my head is down and I’m focused on my speedometer. Now I’m not entirely sure what he was doing at that time, obviously he saw me coming, so he stopped reversing. But as I begun to divert my attention form my speed to the road, I notice that I have about 30cm between my self and what would appear a white wall. I had no choice but to lock both brakes and experience for my self the law of momentum as my back tire moved from a horizontal to a vertical position. However, this was to my advantage, because by lifting my back tire it allowed me to swivel my bike to the left, enabling me to break the majority of the impact with my shoulder rather than the crown of my head. I then had the privilege to prove yet another Law. I have heard it said that to every action there is an equal and opposite reaction. While, as Job would say,” Once my hears had heard, but now my eyes have seen.” As I hit this guys back window, His glass proceeded in a forward direction, whilst I rebounded, finding my self-returning from whence I had once come. My subconscious somehow managed to workout Newton’s Law, and thought the most appropriate thing would be to repeat the last maneuver of swiveling the bike. As my back tire returned to it’s horizontal passion I found my self with both tiers on the ground in a position some what close how I had started. Thanks to the Lord my injures where minimal. I sliced my ear and shoulder, and grazed my back and my arm. Otherwise I’m 100’s hahaha. Last thing; never trust the voice of your stomach. About 10min before my ride I had it screaming at me with grunts and gowns crying out it was empty, as though it was pleading for its life. But 30sec after impact it was still singing yet had completely changed its tune. All of a sudden it’s say, “Mike there is way to much in hear for me. I vote half of it comes out.” Unbelievable, who would have thought I could be so indecisive?
