You know all my life I had been told that my grandfather hadnt done anything during the wars, this weekend I had an e mail from ancestory allowing me free access to search their war records. Not only did I find out that my dads dad was a Chelsea pensioner (ie in full receipt of pension) but that my so called non hero grand dad had fought at the somme lost most of his battalion and fought in various other battles during the first world war. Can I ask guys that you keep a record of where you were stationed and any other info which may be relevant. Just put it in a file somewhere because it could be your grandchildren one day who will be looking for you. Its taken me over twenty years to prove everyone wrong!!!
