You know how I kinda brag on all the yummlies folks fix down here in my Lil Nashvegas? Well, this Saturday, I was asked to judge the Berrien County Grape Stomping Harvest Festival Cooking Contest! I know! I just died a little, cause judgin cookin contests is only second to judgin parades in the Beth Book of Awesomeness. I still think I could earn a livin workin the parade circuit in rural Georgia. Well put crepe paper on a trailer and drag that mess through town for ANYTHING. Anyway, local friends, if you wanna get in on this goodness, the info is copied below. This will be the only time Ill judge you. No, for reals. We dont hold with judgin round here. Well, unless were talkin pound cakes. A tasty, new addition has been added to this year’s Fifth Annual Berrien County Harvest Festival. Crissy Staley and Dawn Morrison organizers of the event say a Cooking Contest has been on their agenda for several years. This year the Bank of Alapaha generously volunteered to host the event. The Bank of Alapaha’s Relay for Life Team will organize the event and all monies collected will benefit the Relay for Life. The contest will be held inside the Nashville Community Center on Saturday, September 27th during the Harvest Festival. The contest will host four categories. 1. Cakes & Pies; 2. Ready to Eat Canned Goods which consist of: Jams, Jellies, Salsa, Pickled Okra, Relishes, Preserves, etc.; 3. Casseroles; and 4. Children 13 & Under Baked Goods. Each category will be judged by three judges. Judging will begin at 10:00 in the morning with contestant drop off beginning at 8:00 a.m. and ending at 9:30 a.m. at the Nashville Community Center. Prizes will be awarded in each category. First place winners in each category will receive $50 in Berrien Bucks, a trophy and a ribbon. Second and Third place winners in each category will receive a trophy and a ribbon. Entry fees are $15 for the first entry and $10 for each entry thereafter. Entry forms are available at the Berrien County Chamber of Commerce and the Bank of Alapaha. Participants are asked to please turn in their recipes with their entry forms and label each item. All entries must be turned in by Friday, September 26. The contest will be open to the public from 11:00 until 1:00. For a donation of three dollars visitors may sample each entry and will be offered a copy of the judged recipes. For more information on this event please call Dale or Susan at 686-7491.
