You know what.. Im just listening to the episode again. Lizzies little speech to a very drunk Roy whos bemoaning the loss of his home, family and livelihood.. WE will get through this... she says to him.. things will get better for BOTH of us.. Does she really think in that moment that Roy gives a shit about what happens to her ?? and when you get right down to it.. apart from a bit of teenage approbation and some curtain twitching.. what exactly has happened to her ?? Not much. She has a paper cut and a black eye, whilst Roys is in the psych ward and Hayleys in a full body cast in the ICU. I know there is sympathy for Elizabeth out there.. and I dont think shes the spawn of the devil or inherently evil or anything like that. But shes an arch manipulator and she thinks only of herself and that selfishness isnt buried very deep. She was exactly the same when Phil wanted to pass Brookfield to David & Ruth.. Shes talked a lot these last few weeks about how shes lost her childrens respect.. but only in terms of how that makes HER feel. She hasnt spoken once about how this may have actually affected Lily or Freddie.. only how awkward their scorn makes HER. She has actually been incredibly middle class - uptight - whatever will the neighbours think about the whole thing. Yesterday with her mum it was again all about HER.. I feel terrible, You should see the way Freddie looks at ME, Ive been so lonely, MY reputation, MY self respect.. I.. I.. I.. Captain bloody Birdseye. Yes shes very sorry.. but were all very sorry when our worst actions are laid out for public scrutiny. She didnt tell Jill that she was the one who made the pass at Roy She neglected to tell her mum that she sacked Roy because HER life became a bit uncomfortable with him there. She blamed Roy for not letting it go when we all know that one stern word would have stopped him in his tracks. And tonight with Roy she showed yet again that number 1 on her list is Lizzie Lizzie Lizzie. I know that ultimately we can only really be concerned with ourselves.. we cant control what anyone else thinks and feels.. but Elizabeth Archer has really taken that philosophy to a whole other level this last 6 months. Selfish and self absorbed to the very last.. and I still dont like her.
