You know what feels good? Paying it forward. Giving to others. - TopicsExpress

You know what feels good? Paying it forward. Giving to others. Spending money you dont have, just to make another person smile. Today, I visited Thing 1 at his place of employment and ordered an appetizer. Things 2 and 3 were with me, and we were seated in the cocktail area, where we watched Germany and Algeria, in a World Cup game. Seated at the next table was a soldier eating a $10.19 salad and a watermelon lemonade that cost $2.79 (approximately what our bill was). Danny was helping us, and I let it be known that we would like to pay for the meal of the man who wore his Army uniform proudly and had one of the biggest grins Ive ever seen on a human...and happened to like soccer, too. I wanted my gift to be discreet, but Danny gave me away, to the young soldier. He thanked me with that huge grin, and then we three thanked HIM for all hes done and will continue to do for us. Personally. For US. My two young teenagers even offered their own money, towards his meal. There are so many ways to show gratitude. Or to show RESPONSIBILITY for our fellow mankind. I wish that people who actually DO have the means to give more often, would. I had a conversation yesterday with a couple who agree with me. I live in a small community that boasts many citizens of median income...many who are impoverished...and a good amount whose wealth Ill never achieve or realize. Where are THOSE people giving?! How are THEY helping others? Especially in our little town that needs some real attention, as of late. I have so many ideas on giving back and building a better Bristow. But I literally dont have the means to reach my lofty goals. Yes. It takes time and effort and a willingness to give those things. I have that. But ya know what? Itll always come back to finances. I donate to local fundraisers. I give to my church. I pay for others meals, when Im down to my last dollar. Why cant those who can (and SHOULD) give, spend a little (or a lot) in helping others? At the end of the day...and at the ends of our lives...we will all be.......dead. Lets hope that we can try during our time on earth to do what will be remembered by those we leave behind.
