You know, when I was around 11 years old, my mother told me – Derrick, if you want to understand women, find out what they are being taught. She then introduced me to – Cosmo, Essence, and Ebony. She turned me on to – Angela Davis, Gloria Steinem, and various other relevant women. She was absolutely right. I was not like other men; who claim that women were impossible to understand. As a teenager, I knew more about womens menstruation than many of the girls I hung out with. I have always considered myself a feminist. I say that to say this. You are what you read. If all of your information is painting a bad picture of a certain culture, you will be misinformed to believe, that that culture is bad. My mother often told me – Derrick, consider the source. I take her advice seriously. I always question my sources; even if I have agreed with them in the past. MOMS WAS WISE!
