You may recall that when the last set of plans for Coyte Farm were revealed, a man called Rob Morray from Marks and Spencer came to the Town Council and spoke to everyone and in the strongest terms stated that for St Austell it was Coyte Farm or nothing. He gave the reasons why and explained that the M&S vision for shopping in the future was to build this purpose built out of town store that best met the needs of its customers. He stated there was no way they would consider any other site but Coyte Farm and that it was one of the few new stores they were opening in Britain. During the SPC meeting, when questioned on this, Graham Walker, Councillor for Bethel, said well they would say that wouldnt they. Well after reading the attached article about Great Yarmouth and their Marks and Spencer, it would appear that this is precisely the route they are taking. It is spelt out in their statement in the report. So the next time someone tells you they can get M&S to open in the town centre and they arent going to Coyte Farm, it may be worth giving them this to read as M&S are doing exactly what they said they would.
