You might think you should feel bad for the Dreamworks artists. - TopicsExpress

You might think you should feel bad for the Dreamworks artists. Maybe. But consider this: theyve all gotten to work at what, at one time, was considered the best company to work for in ANY industry. Maybe Im just jaded and grumpy nowadays, but Im more worried about the fact that 500 employees with Dreamworks on their resumes will now be competing with me for the very few jobs that still even exist out here. This industry is getting rougher by the minute. America has basically failed to even pretend it cares about keeping the film industry manageable stateside, so everythings moving to Canada. Even crazier than that, despite all the criticism and the attempts at limiting foreign tax subsidies, it turns out that this Canada thing is somehow actually working. So what do I do now? Im a mid-to-senior level compositor with a pile of movies under my belt and virtually zero local demand for my skillset. Do I sit here and fight for freelance crumbs and hope fruitlessly for the work to come back to LA? *sigh* I guess Im gonna have to maple up my boots and learn to speak French. At least its a romance language. Im good with those.
