You never know who youre talking to! Whilst I was chatting to my new friend, the UKIP Treasurer yesterday, at the Flying Club, a smartly dressed gentleman came into the club house, a visitor with time to kill, who said he flew at RAF Wittering. During the conversation, it emerged that he was a retired RAF pilot. Martyn Dell asked him what aircraft he had flown and he listed an impressive array of fast jets plus VC10 and Hercules transports. We all shook hands on leaving, exchanging names, as you do. Im Phil Sturley he said. When I got home I Googled him to see if he was mentioned anywhere. It turns out that this pleasant chap wed been chatting to was Air Marshall Philip Sturley CBE. FRAeS etc. one time Deputy Chief of Air Staff, former station Commander at RAF Cottesmore.... He now takes Air Cadets for air experience flights at Wittering, and flies gliders in the British Gliding Team. Really nice chap to talk to.
