You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below. (Deuteronomy 5:8) You saw no form of any kind the day the LORD spoke to you out of the fire. Therefore watch yourselves very carefully, (Deuteronomy 4:15) With whom, then, will you compare God? To what image will you liken him? (Isaiah 40:18) since we are Gods offspring, we should not think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone--an image made by human design and skill. (Acts 17:29) To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal? says the Holy One. (Isaiah 40:25) Who is a God like you, who pardons sin and forgives the transgression of the remnant of his inheritance? You do not stay angry forever but delight to show mercy. (Micah 7:18) With whom will you compare me or count me equal? To whom will you liken me that we may be compared? (Isaiah 46:5) Who among the gods is like you, LORD? Who is like you-- majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders? (Exodus 15:11) Therefore speak to them and tell them, This is what the Sovereign LORD says: When any of you set up idols in their hearts and put a wicked stumbling block before their faces and then go to a prophet, I the LORD will answer them myself in keeping with their great idolatry. (Ezekiel 14:4) because you have sold yourself to do evil in the eyes of the LORD. (1 Kings 21:20) so I also will choose harsh treatment for them and will bring on them what they dread. For when I called, no one answered, when I spoke, no one listened. They did evil in my sight and chose what displeases me. (Isaiah 66:4) Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I let them inquire of me at all? (Ezekiel 14:3) keep yourselves from idols. (1 John 5:21) my dear friends, flee from idolatry. (1 Corinthians 10:14) For you have spent enough time in the past doing what pagans choose to do— living in debauchery, lust, drunkenness, orgies, carousing and detestable idolatry. (1 Peter 4:3) It is because your ancestors forsook me, declares the LORD, and followed other gods and served and worshiped them. They forsook me and did not keep my law. (Jeremiah 16:11) You know that when you were pagans, somehow or other you were influenced and led astray to mute idols (1 Corinthians 12:2) in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient.. (Ephesians 2:2) So I tell you this, and insist on it in the Lord, that you must no longer live as they do, in the futility of their thinking. (Ephesians 4:17) Say to the rebellious, This is what the Sovereign LORD says: Enough of your detestable practices, people. (Ezekiel 44:6) though the Lord had said, “You shall not do this.” (2 Kings 17:12) They rejected his decrees and the covenant he had made with their ancestors and the statutes he had warned them to keep. They followed worthless idols and themselves became worthless. They imitated the nations around them although the Lord had ordered them, “Do not do as they do.” (2 Kings 17:15) They made him jealous with their foreign gods and angered him with their detestable idols. (Deuteronomy 32:16) and make cakes to offer to the Queen of Heaven. They pour out drink offerings to other gods to arouse my anger. (Jeremiah 7:18) You have done more evil than all who lived before you. You have made for yourself other gods, idols made of metal; you have aroused my anger and turned your back on me. (1 Kings 14:9) They angered him with their high places; they aroused his jealousy with their idols. (Psalm 78:58) They can do you no good, nor can they rescue you, because they are useless. (1 Samuel 12:21) I have revealed and saved and proclaimed-- I, and not some foreign god among you. You are my witnesses, declares the LORD, that I am God. (Isaiah 43:12) Even while these people were worshiping the Lord, they were serving their idols. To this day their children and grandchildren continue to do as their ancestors did. (2 Kings 17:41) They exchanged the truth about God for a lie, and worshiped and served created things rather than the Creator--who is forever praised. Amen. (Romans 1:25)
