You should see a psychiatrist! people used to say to me. And they - TopicsExpress

You should see a psychiatrist! people used to say to me. And they were right. And I followed their advice. The first psychiatrist I saw had bookshelves behind her desk that went up to the ceiling. Thousands of books. Do you have fears? she asked me early in my first session with her. Yes! I said, without hesitation. Many? she said. Yes, I said. How many do you think? she said. And I pointed to her bookshelves, and I said, As many fears as you have books here. I saw an odd look of satisfaction come over her face. As if she had just found a very long-term source of income. Then I went to a psychologist, and then I went into group therapy, and on and on. Then I recovered from my addictions and I saw life through a clean and sober filter. Wow! It was beautiful, this new life. But so challenging! I was unprepared to be a proper provider and raise my family. I was going broke. Broker by the day! I needed help. And so I got a coach. A coach is different than a psychiatrist. You can tell by the name. A coach coaches. A psychiatrist heals mental illness. Or sends you to the pharmacy for it. But a coach coaches a player. I wanted to be a player. A good player. So I got a coach. And he taught me to play the great game of life, which included the great game of business. The great game of free (and freeing) enterprise. And the only time I got stuck was when I forgot that it was supposed to be fun. Like the great quarterback Fran Tarkenton said, If it isnt fun, youre not doing it right.
