Young People in Recovery would like to take the time, to clarify - TopicsExpress

Young People in Recovery would like to take the time, to clarify who we are, and what we do. YPR is a national advocacy organization. We promote and advocate for change that expands the continuum of care to include recovery support systems for youth who are in recovery. We believe that increasing access to education, employment, and housing will support our community and make the decision to enter into recovery, or maintain long-term recovery, easier. We are NOT, affiliated with any one pathway to recovery. Our members come from all walks of life, as well as all pathways to recovery. Our job as recovery advocates is not to support one pathway over the other, but rather support every individual and their own personal preference. There are as many pathways to recovery as there are people in recovery, and we choose to support all of them. WE WILL NEVER ASK AN INDIVIDUAL TO PUT A LABEL ON THEIR OWN RECOVERY. Our Chapters are programs of YPR. They essentially wear two hats, meaning they advocate for better access to housing, employment and education in their local communities, while also offering workshops which act as YPRs own form of peer to peer support services. They are Advocacy and Action in the most literal of terms. Our workshops (which are 100% FREE), will focus on supporting each young person who attends, find safe and affordable housing, pursue higher education, and obtain suitable employment.
