Your town isnt throwing out Comcast; Comcast is throwing out your town. Comcast is spinning off a new company in order to get down to 30 million subscribers, so that the FCC will approve its pending merger with Time Warner. This new company has a series of names based on the stage of the process the spinoff is in: SpinCo, Midwest Cable LLC, and eventually GreatLand Connections. It will be the 5th largest cable provider at its inception. The new companys board of directors is being picked entirely by Comcast and Charter, which is also part of the complicated reorginzation that will see Charter and Comcast shareholders owning stock in GreatLand Connections. Neither Comcast nor Charter itself will own the new cable company, but with the board picked by them, the Charter President and CEO serving as chairman of the board, and the new CEO of GreatLand Communications being the former CEO of Insight Communications (which was sold to Time Warner some time ago), youre going to be just another cog of the incestuous, mutually supportive cable cartel that controls the market in this country. -/u/sirbruce
