A Taste of Theater solves this by allowing you to focus only on a small portion of your play, one scene. Your play will be seen by a diverse audience who will provide feedback by voting whether they like it or not. We provide each playwright with this information. During the two day event, trail blazer and Playwright extraordinaire Shelly Garret, the predecessor to Tyler Perry, will be there to teach you his keys to success during the workshops. Shelly Garrett wowed the world and broke box office records with his play Beauty Shop. He toured for 50 out of 52 weeks a year for 4 years in the 80’s and 90’s. Countless playwrights over the years were inspired from Shelly’s work like Tyler Perry, Mike Matthews and David Talbert. That is why A Taste of Theater proudly presents the Shelly Garrett award to the playwright with the most votes. The event takes place October 10-11, 2014 at Carver Military Academy 13100 Doty Road.
