ZERO TOLERANCE TO ROAD INDISCIPLINE – OPEIFA Lagos motorists and the general road users have been warned to desist from acts that impede the smooth flow of traffic on Lagos roads. The Commissioner for Transportation, Comrade Kayode Opeifa, who gave the warning recently while responding to questions from callers as a guest on a live radio programme “Awaye” recently, said that road research and survey conducted by the ministry have shown that traffic congestion usually result from the misuse of road space by motorists and other road users. According to him, “these acts include indiscriminate pickups at unauthorized places by commercial passengers’ vehicles popularly known as Danfos, private vehicles, hawking of wares by street traders and indiscriminate road crossing by pedestrians which slows down the traffic”. Noting that all these act, even though may look minute, constitute the larger percentage of road indiscipline that eventually lead to traffic build up, he, therefore, called on all the relevant enforcement agencies to rise up to the occasion and nip these unwholesome acts in the bud. The Commissioner assured Lagosians that the State Government remained committed to keep Lagos traffic moving and enjoined them to ensure that they drive road worthy vehicles on the roads by maintaining and servicing their vehicles regularly in order to avoid breakdown which is also a source of concern to the State Government.
