ZIFA to get budget allocation: ZIFA President, Cuthbert Dube says local football could be set for a resurgence following considerations by the new sports ministry to finance the national game. The ZIFA boss said his association is for the first time likely to receive a budget allocation that may come as the-much-awaited shot to resuscitate local football. This follows consultative meetings by the new ministry to redress the association’s challenges. “I am glad to announce that for once, ZIFA will have an allocation from the national budget. We had a consultative meeting where the ministry asked us how they can help resolve our numerous challenges and advised them of our financial standing,” said Dube. The ZIFA President made the remarks at a ZIFA Midlands Division 2 awards ceremony were Gweru City and Chemumvuri Pirates from Gokwe were crowned champions and promoted to the ZIFA Division 1 Central Region. Dube, who sponsors the awards, commended the two teams and advised them to maintain the legacy of the Midlands Province which he cited as the cradle of Zimbabwe football for its unceasing role in developing and churning out football greats. He however took a swipe at some of his provincial leadership whom he cited as lacking maturity by mismanaging the benevolent grants he avails to the provinces quarterly. “I am told some of you, my chairmen, are using the grants I give you for self enrichment. The people in your provinces are not happy and it is not right because that money is for you to develop football,” he said. Also present at the awards ceremony were Midlands former footballers such Wonder Chaka and famous ex-Chapungu goalkeeper, Innocent Chogugudza, among others. The ZIFA provincial chairpersons were also there as well as former Governor and Resident Minister, Cde Cephas Msipa.
