Zoluaga’s “Hampang” opens at UPV Art Gallery In order to extend help to the victims of Typhoon Yolanda in Northern Iloilo, renowned Ilonggo visual artist PG Zoluaga, in collaboration with the UP Visayas Chancellor’s Committee on Culture and the Arts (UPV-CCCA) mounted his 2013 artworks at the Ed Defensor Wing of the UPV Art Gallery, Iloilo City campus. The exhibit called “Hampang” or Playing with Abstraction opened on November 22, 2013. “Hampang”, which runs until December 2013, featured the 20 acrylic on canvas masterpieces of Zoluaga in various sizes. The paintings were the product of his effort to try abstract painting for the first time. He was inspired by fellow artists Allain Hablon and Ed Defensor. Zoluaga said part of the proceeds from the exhibit will be donated to the typhoon victims in the northern part of the Iloilo Province. Mr. Serge Guillaume, a Swiss Art Collector, graced the opening of the exhibit. Also present to show support to the artist were his fellow Ilonggo artists, UPV professor Martin Genodepa, and UPV Friends for the Arts, among others. Zoluaga has been recently elected to the National Visual Arts Committee of the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) representing Western Visayas.
