Zombie Takeover from the eyes of a LOBOS I am not a target. - TopicsExpress

Zombie Takeover from the eyes of a LOBOS I am not a target. Injunctions are injustice. This is today through my eyes: We arrived to Echo Park at around 11am. All day people practiced Michael Jacksons Thriller while others did outreach to the community. Thriller was done with zombie cops attacking our youth. Our message was clear: Injunctions are injustice. Fliers went out as well as invitations to flashmobs at Micheltorena Elem. and the surprise one at Sunset Blvd and Echo Park Ave. Around 3pm we made our way to Micheltorena Elementary in Silver Lake. Instantly we saw the gentrification as we received weird looks for our zombie-painted faces. I also met Jack Black there and DJ Lance Rock from Yo Gabba Gabba. The school had a problem with our performance. They wouldnt let us do it with the political context to it. Because gang injunctions were such a controversial topic, the folks at the fair we crashed wanted us to do the dance and leave without talking about the real issue: criminalization of youth of color. We chanted. We held our signs. The crowd was thrilled. After chanting our way out, we headed to Sunset and Echo Park where STAY folks and others on bikes met at the intersection. After some chanting, we shut down the streets. We took back OUR streets and performed Thriller. The chopper above did not deter us. We marched down to Echo Park and had a small speak out. Some hipsters having a picnic asked me to sing happy birthday for their friend on our bullhorn. I said no and continued chanting with folks. We took over and hugged random folks. We liberated space. We got one step closer to community and liberation. STAY Standing Together Advocating for our Youth Youth Justice Coalition
