Zouave stable-belt. I dont know the correct term in French. Seen often but only when wearing trousers based on the photos Ive found. I very common Victorian piece of clothing. Close up of Zouaves wearing stable belts from the collection of Jean Nicolas. Certainly 4e Zouaves. I dont know the color of the stripes so went with red stripes. Zouave at left has metal lanyard loop sewn on. Worn in some cases for physical exercise. For instance gymnastics and fencing and perhaps for stable duties. No access to the proper knit webbing so used canvas, double over with internal stiffener.
