Zvemumagitare part 37 COVERING UP FOR EACH OTHER ON STAGE When we are working on stage we are a team,we are a family.Family members cover up for each other, every family has its issues but we dont humiliate each other publicly,we cover up for each other. There is a tendency amongst certain vocalists(since they are the ones with mics during shows) to publicly rebuke&humiliate band members or soundmen if something goes wrong during a perfomance, right in the face of the audience, some think it makes them look cool, they think it shows they are no nonsense people when in fact regardless of who does it,its just a case of kuonererwa, period&It shows serious unproffesionalism. No one apart from us on stage should know that something is wrong. My mistake is your mistake too because it shows we didnt do the practices well enough before presenting the act to the people. If its ok to rebuke everybody who makes a mistake through the mic on stage i think it will be fair to give mics to everybody for that purpose so that when anybody, including the lead vocalist makes a mistake we also rebuke him in front of the audience to make the playing field level&fair, because obvously you also make mistakes. Most proffesional bands rebuke each other on stage but no one in the crowd notices it because its done so secretly in respect to each other. On Bob Marleys one love peace concert there is part a part that Bob singswhat are you doing man, what are you doing manwe all thought it was part of a perfomance, but guitarist Al Anderson on the doucumentary Marley, says Bob was talking to him rebuking him for playing a wrong chord,it was done so artistically that only Bob&the band knew what it meant. Im sure at Tukus gigs you see him talking to band members with a smiling face or laughing,at times its not even jokes they would be sharing,at times it would be a serious rebuke but cushioned with a smile so that no one in the crowd knows whats happening on stage. Sometimes eye contact does all the talking&the one who would have messed up knows the meaning of the type of eye contact,it tells a thousand words.Remember when we were growing up how a motherseye contact would make a child change behaviour instantly,it also works on stage. Proffesionally there should be a post motem meeting after the gig during the next practice session, but if the rebuking cant wait, then it has to be done with respect, manje some artists instead of removing the mic away in order to whisper the rebuke privately they actually look for a microphone so that everybody knows whats happening&you wonder is he talking to the band member or the crowd, thats seriously unproffesional&kuonererwa. All the singers that i worked with who had that bad habit never got away with it without a word or 2 from me after the gig. Public rebuke &humiliation can seriously damage the reputation of the musician or soundman besides hurting his pride. For a soundman it can destroy his c.v and blocks future jobs for him. After all a serious musician should move around with his personal soundman who he trusts, who knows what he wants, not to move around rebuking soundpeople at every gig expecting them to be prophets or magicians who can guess how you want things to be done. Besides ruining the soundmans cv it also kills the party mood at the gig,who would want an angry musician perfoming on stage? I know when popularity gets in the head most people act as if they cant controll their anger,as if they know it all,but lets avoid kuonererwa by humiliating each other publicly,A band member plays his best when happy, lets cover up for each other on stage.Pasi nechibharanzi kumagitare!
