acsis VOB trail runs this weekend: SATURDAY 21 SEPTEMBER 2013 TABLE MOUNTAIN TRAILERS CONSTANTIA NEK / KIRSTENBOSCH Route: A circular run from Constantia Nek through to Kirstenbosch via the mountain bike track through Cecelia Forest then past the Dam to Skeleton Gorge returning via Spilhaus up to the jeep track and back. Rendezvous and Start Time: RV in the Constantia Nek parking area opposite the restaurant Ready to start at 0645 Terrain and Distance: Gentle flattish trail for first two km. Then an uphill haul to 4ways above the dam followed by the undulating single mountain trail to Skeleton Gorge. Turn and return to 4ways and a climb up to Spilhaus and Rooikat onto the jeep track. Finally a downhill coast back to the parking area. Distance: about 12 Kms taking more or less about 2hrs 30min. Recovery Group: The recovery group will follow a slightly shorter route at a more modest pace. SUNDAY 22 SEPTEMBER 2013 Acsis VOB LONGER FASTER GROUP KLOOF NEK / CONTOUR PATH / SADDLE / MIDDLE CONTOUR / MOWBRAY RIDGE / KNIFE EDGE / MINOR PEAK / CONTOUR PATH BACK Start Time and Place: 06h45 (PLEASE NOTE EARLIER START TIME) from the Kloof Nek car park outside the SANParks Info kiosk. The Route: We will head straight up Kloof Corner to the contour path. We follow the contour path left through Platteklip to the split just after the overhang at Silverstream Ravine. At the split we go right and head up to the Saddle. From Saddle Rock we take the middle contour path left and follow it around to Mowbray Ridge. Up Mowbray Ridge to and across the Knife Edge. A little scramble up and over Devil’s Peak Minor Peak. Straight down to the lower contour path and back to the cars. Distance: About 20km Running Time: 3.5 – 4 hours. Difficulty: Lots of running on this route but with three nasty climbs (up to the contour path at the start, up to The Saddle and then up Mowbray Ridge to the top of Minor Peak). Please be warned that there is a little exposure to a steep drop when crossing Kife Edge but one can keep away from it if you choose your route with care (I will be there to advise). Then there is an easy little rock scramble to get up Minor Peak. It looks a little scary from the bottom but is actually very easy. Important Notes · Please note the earlier start time of 06h45. · Some of you will have noticed that my fitness has dropped off a little bit lately and so the speed of this run may not be as fast as some of the faster runners may like. I will lead from the back and we will just regroup in order for me to catch up from time to time. But I will endeavour to keep the pace up as much as possible. · Ensure that you are wearing and carrying weather-appropriate gear as well as sufficient water and energy snacks to see you through the whole run. · There is a little exposure to heights and rock scrambling on this route. However, it is nothing that someone with a normal fear of heights can’t handle. ALSO, if you really feel you can’t cope with it, there is an easy path around all of the hectic stuff. · Do not leave valuables in your car. Although we park in the safest spot, this area is known for break-ins and we don’t provide car guards. Leave everything out of side. · Bring ICE cold be’erages to rehydrate with afterwards
