after 15 days of rain...the ground is sodden and the creek is full. today the sun was out and in the valley there was not much air movement, now in the afterglow of sunset, the cooler drier night air is settling over warm high water and sun warmed pavement making for a whispy layering of transient patches of vapor eddying in the edges of the woods and swirling over backwater highs in the creek. these moving mists seem to attract the lightning bugs...maybe because they amplify the twinkling calls - sending blinking messages to the ladies on the ground. walking through the alternating cool and warm swirls, some damp enough to leave you wet some hazy enough to make seeing your own feet difficult and yet be surrounded by flashes of glowing code... it seems as if you are wading through dimensions. the ground is in shapeless darkness against paler blue sinking into night ..the fog is pale against the ground yet dark against the sky and hanging low about waist height, which is still over your head as it climbs the sides of the valley and hangs up to the ridges above but not escaping the valley itself. when you sit below the haze...you enter a world where all senses are amplified because the eyes are cheated of discernment ...only the fireflies follow...but now the ground bound are equally as visible as the flying - being the only point the eyes focus on -a source of light. sit still, open ones self up to experiencing a new perspective
