.. and it just gets more unbelievable - the ISOs 2014/15 season will feature many young and restless soloists (fresh talent), but no young and restless composers, and no middle-aged and restless composers, or even recently dead composers. These hip and handsome, and foreign and, in some cases hot new young pianists, violinists and conductors for the coming season (likely WAY cheaper than the big guns, thereby saving big $$ at the front office) are bringing to our visionary orchestra the music of Mozart, Beethoven, Mahler, Shostakovich, Mendelssohn and - be careful now, this is getting way too modern (and, God forbid, American) .. Samuel Barber. Its just as much THEIR fault (the hip young soloists) for not exposing and encouraging music of their own time and convincing the orchestral managements that THAT is the way to attract new audiences. I have done residencies at numerous high end US conservatories over the years and its the same everywhere, most of the best players are lost in the 19th Century as if THAT is the only way to express their abilities. --- and the Pops will feature The Beatles (thanx, anyhow, Ill listen to the original recordings of I Am the Walrus and A Day in the Life ... ) B| BTW, this is NOT about me, this is about the hundreds of fantastic young American composers that deserve a shot ...
