#bmgcspotlightsunday Spotlight on Hole #4 - VALLEY Most of the holes on the course were laid out to take advantage of existing interesting natural features, ie; rock ledge, streams, ravines, and of course, trees. The 4th hole is no exception. When walking the land, two large oaks stood out to the owners, as well as a beautiful pine grove. The course architect, Brian Silva, took these features into account and the beautiful Par 4, 363 yard, 4th hole was built. Sadly, we lost one of these signature old oak trees during a storm in 2011. While the elevated nature of the tees on the 1st and 3rd holes yield an excellent view of the fairway landing areas for the tee shot, few holes in golf identify the tee shot task ahead as well as the 4th. The fairway is a valley, sitting some 20 to 40 feet below a steep slope to the left and mounds to the right. The mounds on the right are capped with a huge oak and a teed ball whose line of flight flirts with the oak will leave the easiest second shot to a plateau green framed left and right by white pine. Playing Tips Now it’s time for the driver. Keep your drive slightly right for a great angle to the green. Don’t go long with your second shot.
