by request. A family member of the W Floyd Wood family asked me to post some photos related to his ancestors Nixa general store. Mr Wood came from Protem to Nixa in 1919 and established a general store at the southwest corner of Mt Vernon Road (Highway 14) and Main Street. From 1920 he and his family were the sole owners of the concern until 1954 when he sold out. Photos: 1) the way south Main Street, Nixa looked in 1919 when the Wood family arrived from Protem. We are looking south. 2) Floyd and Clara Wood with their 4 children around 1929. Standing from left: Vonda, Russell, and Edna. The youngest, Victor, is between his mother and father. 3)Floyd and daughter Edna stand in front of their store with clerk and minister Roscoe Harding (right) and Roscoes little daughter Anna Bell Harding around 1930. They perhaps didnt take an indoor shot because the store was totally full of general. Mr Wood carried nearly a little of everything! 4) 1940c------On many Saturdays Mr Wood would bring in a salesman rep from one of his product lines, and there would be a drawing from among Mr. Woods customers for a nice prize. In this shot, we are standing right next to the Woods Store looking east toward the Nixa Post Office of that era. A Tuff-Nut clothing salesman is giving a speech about his clothings quality and will soon draw for prizes! This event was big stuff in little Nixa. The crowd was a small town riot!
