come this time of year, I realize that I have been in rebellion against accounting. And yet accounting does not go away, it waits for me to come back, so it can gnaw on my time, gnaw on my very soul. a well formed life apparently involves accounting throughout the year. any given day could be an opportunity to close that book, cease kissing ones lover, toss aside the paint brush, and sit around filling out forms, typing numbers. preparing for some other day when the numbers will need to stand proud and clean, like an army, ready to be inspected by those who shepherd us through life. And only then will one experience true satisfaction, a satisfaction I have never known.
