He alleged that she funded the terrorist, including LTTE, PLOTE and helped them procure arms to continue their struggle against Sri Lanka. But Dr. Swamy re-iterated that the BJP Government will never ever repeat Indira`s mistake. India Under Modi, always wanted to have a better understanding and relationship with regional countries. He added that the BJP Government will not interfere in internal matters of Sri Lanka and will not allow western countries to interfere in Sri Lanka`s matters as well. He made these comments when participating in a panel discussion, organized by the Bandaranaike Centre for International Studies (BCIS) on India under Modi: Relevance for the region and the world. The former minister said Human Right are being used as a tool by some quarters to belittle Sri Lanka`s achievement in crushing one of the most ruthless terrorist outfits in the world. Swamy added that India is proud of President Mahinda Rajapaksa who decisively defeated terrorism in Sri Lanka. No other country has so decisively defeated terrorism, he added. The new Indian administration has made some progressive moves to have better relationship with Sri Lanka while sidelining the Tamil Nadu sentiments. The central government has slowly and tactfully cornered the Tamil Nadu politicians comments, which was well appreciated by different sectors of Sri Lanka. Lost Opportunity Dr. Swamy also stated that all hardliners against Sri Lanka were defeated at the election that was held in May. State Interest will be regarded as an input to make a decision. There was substantial opposition to President Rajapaksas visit to India, but Prime Minister Narendra Modi overruled that, Dr. Swamy said. He also mentioned in a short interview, with the state-run Sri Lanka Broadcasting Corporation (SLBC) that Narendira Modi invited President Rajapaksa and expected the Chief Minister of Northern Province to accompany him. Accordingly, when President Rajapaksa invited Chief Minister C.V Wigneswaran to accompany him, Wigneswaran turned down that invitation. He not only turned down the presidents humble request but also lost a good opportunity to have a good relationship with the newly elected Indian Government. He also stated the new Indian government is trying to maintain good relations and ties with the Sri Lankan government, sidelining the Tamil Nadu sentiments. He added that the government led by Narendra Modi has stressed more cooperation and partnership with the countries in the region. Dr.swamy pointed out that Premier Modi has focused special attention on strengthening cooperation among the south Asian Association for Regional cooperation (SAARC) countries. Major restructuring and revamping activities have been started in the SAARC and the organization will be developed into a unit that can solve bilateral issues, he said. There are issues that require unanimity and they will be on the agenda of the next SAARC meeting to be held in Kathumandu, he said. Former Union minister Dr.Suresh Prabhu said Sri Lanka can enter the energy market of India too. He said India has invested in Bhutan and India buys electricity from Bhutan. It is a win- win situation, he said. He was of the view that Sri Lanka can enter the huge energy market by providing energy to India as well. Dr Swamy has been promotion India- Sri Lanka ties in a more effective manner. He has also been a personal admirer of the Rajapaksa Government from its inception. Dr Swamy met President Rajapaksa before he left for India. President Rajapaksa praised Swamy`s efforts to create a good friendly atmosphere between the new Indian Government and Sri Lanka. Navi Pillay and her remote controlled probe UN Human Rights chief Navanetham Pillay whose tenure will end this August comes up with various efforts to put Sri Lanka in trouble. She tried to come to Sri Lanka to conduct the investigation which was categorically turned down by the Sri Lanka Government. Not only the government but also political parties in and out of the ruling coalition, protested against her interference. Thereafter, Navi Pillay tried to access the closest country to Sri Lanka to push her clandestine efforts. But the SAARC countries have rejected her request. It was a moral victory to Sri Lanka. Given this situation Navi Pillay without revealing the details of the investigators and may be with representatives of western counties is trying he best to commence this unwarranted probe. She May have some representatives from Britain, France, Pakistan and America, but can she do a remote controlled investigation with some members who have not seen Sri Lanka in their life time. This is ridiculous. Some of her members do not know where Sri Lanka is on the world map. This clearly exposes her personal agenda. It is important that the Sri Lankan people should understand this situation very clearly and come forward to raise their voice in protest against Navi Pillay`s efforts. On the other hand, Sri Lanka has shown remarkable growth economically and development wise in every sector compared to other countries in the region. The development politics adopted by the Government brought immediate relief to war affected Tamil people and it sets a good example to other countries which face similar situations. Meanwhile, the security forces, Sri Lanka Army, Navy and Air force, have contributed a lot to infrastructure development, not only in war affected area but also in the southern part of the country. The Army used its manpower to develop new infrastructures in a rapid pace. This is a remarkable achievement. This has helped the country make reconstruction and rebuilding of the nation in a cost effective manner. The contribution by the Army also saved a lot of foreign funds. Sri Lanka showed the world that it has enough national resources to rebuild the country. Sri Lanka Army especially, the security Forces command division of the North has contributed a lot to the northern people in terms of reconstruction, organizing cultural shows, no smoking awareness, dengue control, education and maintaining religious harmony. The CSR projects of the Jaffna security forces are well appreciated by different sectors of society in the province. SF-Jaffna has organized many people centered projects in the recent past. Under the guidance of SF-Jaffna Commander major General Udaya Perera the SF- Jaffna division has gone a long way, within a short period, to achieve real peace and harmony in the province. One of their people centered projects, Media and Communication Workshop, has been a major success in the recent past. This is an exercise which is organized every quarter by SF-Jaffna division with the contribution of eminent personalities from the Tamil Civil Society and intellectuals. An extract of the event description is given below: Security forces always have better communication with civil societies Sets an Example to the nation. Inspiring senior officers on Effective Communication, Handling of Media, particularly Military- Media relations. c. Providing an opportunity to ascertain practical tools for mass communication in realistic and practical Handling of media. d. Last but not the least; making officers understand the challenges and opportunities offered by the media to use windows of opportunities in posture and image building. Furthermore , this whole effort is to mould officers to represent their institution as a national entity and be the ambassadors to the community that they are responsible to serve before themselves, Skills in effective communication is identified as one of the key ingredient in serving the people as its involvement to win the hearts and minds of the people .Secondly to inspire officers to be effective in communicating with the media to obtain due recognition for what they endeavor, that is, providing a better service to the community in all aspects. The workshop was the Second consecutive module of the year under Advanced Module for Senior Officers, a tailor made training programme designed to impart knowledge by mission oriented training. Two more modules have been scheduled for 2014 under the premise of Civil Affairs and Community relations with Transforming Military leadership to Meet Challenges of 21st century. These workshops will justify how much of social responsibility is taken into consideration by the Army (SF-Jaffna Division). This also conveys a clear message to the world that the security Forces could improve their relationship with civil societies when building the nation with reconciliation and peace. Navi Pillay and her team should first try to understand this reality before arriving at conclusion. Even countries like America, Britain and France may not have experienced this atmosphere. This sets a good example how well the security forces can help the country to achieve real peace and harmony in a post-war era.
