continuation: our guest and belgo. gerd talked about the time of the great bell labs, of how everyone in the labs had on their desks ians published work on truncation rod. sabine talked about hamburg and their problems with their tenant; we talked about new york and our problem with our coop. then we talked about ians father, and of francis cricks gift to him which we now call the nobel-prize table. our server would not tell us where he came from. he said his city started with a letter k and smiling, temporarily left us. each of us gave a city name starting k. pretty hard. i said kazakhstan, but its wrong. he said hes not from eastern europe. ian said kosovo and he said right, then added that ian is american. we all laugh because kosovo is in eastern europe and ian is british. the food is good, the conversation is lively, even if most of the names on the walls defy meaning.
