crossposted from yahoo groups... It has been brought to my attention 3 times within this year, that particular former active members of the shire of Aurea Ripae who are less than satisfied with their experiences in our shire have decided to take up their issues and vent to 2 new interested members, a former demo site coordinator, and some assorted others....what leads me to be concerned is NONE of these folks mentioned are related or know one another in any way, but the same beef is being discussed. It has led to active discouragement of potential new members from the town of Owensboro, ky. and led a demo site to tell us that a former member they contacted said the shire of Aurea Ripae no longer has proper insc. to cover doing a demo here any longer, and they had no forwarding contact info for the shire. Aside from this being disturbing...it is not the SCA way. If you have an issue I encourage you to reach out to the proper individuals to be heard and help us as a shire to resolve your discontent. Or even just hear you out. I have reached out to some SCA officers and been given great advice on handling this reoccurring issue, and here it is... I know not everything can be fixed, but sometimes just having an ear to talk to can help a resolve conflicts. This is me personally reaching out in an attempt to stop the negative comments. I want your issues addressed, if you can not approach me please approach/email the proper officers to open the lines of communication. I would like to ask ALL members to focus on the positive things that the SCA has to offer with the newer members of the shire of aurea ripae, and I feel we have s much to offer, we have been a very tight, and connected-active shire for a very long time with great new ideas and events! I think most people know that in a social organization sometimes feathers are ruffled. I acknowledge this and take responsibility for the feathers I have/may have ruffled, but also make sure that you understand punishing new interested folks hurts the shire as a whole not individuals and is very un-chivalrous behavior. I personally want to be courteous. If people have personal problems with other members, these things should be dealt with, but privately. No one wants any dirty laundry to be aired especially to potential new members and site coordinators for demos. If the situation is not an approachable one thats acceptable but individuals should let the issue rest once and for all, for the health of the SCA as a whole. Please use decorum and message privately the proper individuals. I other words in this instance I am not intending this message to be a sounding board for negativity, so please lets not go there folks? Quite possibly the best advice I can relay to us all, If you cant say anything nice, then dont say anything at all. I am also certain that an offer of offer to mediate in-person conversations with people, to see if a compromise can be worked out, is not out of question. Sometimes problems are started just by mis-understandings and I understand that. But as a chatelaine I must address the reoccurring issue of derogatory comments about our shire by SCA members, current-past-active-nonactive. Thank you and remember this is a fun, family hobby. Love and Concern your Chatelaine Lady Alis
