ead Coach Joe Philbin Conference Call with Baltimore Media (On what Dannell Ellerbe has provided the team both on and off the field as a leader) – “Well you stole the words out of my mouth; I think that he has exhibited excellent leadership qualities. Obviously he is four games into his career here, he is very smart, he’s instinctive, very professional, takes care of himself on and off the field and he has been a great addition to the ball club.” (On his impressions of Terrell Suggs on tape) – “He has been a very, very productive player in this league for a long time and I like the way they utilize him, he has got some outstanding pass rush moves. He is a kind of a guy that can lull you to sleep, and he has got a variety of kind of tricks in his bag so to speak, he is going to be a real challenge for us from a protection standpoint. He holds the point well, they have those two guys on the edge that it’s hard to get the ball on the perimeter, he plays the run well. He’s obviously had a great history as a pass rusher in the league.” (On what he has seen from wide receiver Torrey Smith beyond being a deep threat) – “I think that he is emerging as kind of a go to guy and as you mentioned his route tree isn’t just run down deep and we will chuck you the ball. I think that he’s got versatility as a receiver, he has good size and obviously the speed is well documented and he has really fit into that role nice, he has been very productive for them.” (On Marlon Brown and what he has seen from him in the past few games) – “The thing that jumps out at you is his length and his size. He is a good route runner. I like his polish that he has a receiver for a young player and he can create some match up issues with corners there is no doubt about it and he is off to a good start.” (On what he has done to identify the pass blocking issues and what they have done to shore up the issues) – “Well it’s a unit wide issue number one. It’s not just the offensive line or one individual on the offensive line, certainly they are a part of it, but we have had at various points of the season we have had issues at the running back position in terms of the protection, at the tight end position, there are times when our quarterback has held the ball too long. There are times when we didn’t adjust particularly well against the scheme issue potentially blitzed and those types of things, so unfortunately we have kind of had the whole spectrum of things have gone wrong. We obviously have got to fix it, there are a lot of different things that we can do, more three step (drops), sprint out pass, you name it, we are going to have to consider every option.” (On if he feels the way to stop the Ravens offense begins with stopping the run) – “Well I think that they have good balance, obviously they have good backs, Ray Rice and (Bernard) Pierce are very, very formidable running backs. They have a good offensive line and they have, we talked about already, guys on the perimeter that are off to a good start this year. So I still think defensive football even in the National Football League, even though we say it’s a passing league, I still think there’s merit in making the team one dimensional and stopping the run and I wouldn’t be surprised if they come in here and attempt to establish the running game.” (On what makes Paul Soliai so formidable over the center and what has he seen from him so far this year) – “Well he is athletic. He is very athletic for a big man, obviously he is hard to move both from his size and his strength standpoint and he can stay on his feet. Some big guys struggle to stay on their feet and make plays and he is a good enough athlete that not only is he strong and he has quickness, but he can stay on his feet and bring guys to the ground.” (On what challenges Eugene Monroe poses as a left tackle) – “We played (Jacksonville) last year and I remember evaluation him when he was coming out. He’s an excellent athlete, he has very, very good length and his pass protection abilities are excellent. So he is a tough guy to get around just because of his great length, both his height and his arm length and then you combine that with the nice feet that he has, he is going to make it more difficult no doubt.” (On Mike Wallace and the chemistry between Wallace and Ryan Tannehill) – “I think that it’s still a work in progress, no question about it. I like what he has done on the field for us. I like what he has done in the locker room. He is well respected among his teammates. He has been working extremely hard and we are working to fit him in. We like what he has done so far, a couple of games he has had more production than others, but I think he is a factor every time he steps on the field and I think that ultimately helps us as an offensive unit.”
