en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Charles_J._Guiteau Important events in the life of Charles Guiteau: 1. Inherit money to go to a university; fail entrance exams. 2. Join religious cult; get kicked out twice. 3. Start a newspaper; fail. 4. Sue founder of cult; fail. 5. Start legal career; fail. 6. Plagiarize book by religious cults founder and try to sell it; fail. 7. Assassinate President Garfield. 8. Executed by hanging. NOTE- Garfield did not die from the shots, he died from medical complications due to botched procedures 11 weeks later. This means that Guiteau failed at this as well. ALSO- Guiteau became something of a media sensation during his entire trial for his bizarre behavior, which included him frequently cursing and insulting the judge, most of the witnesses, the prosecution, and even his defense team, as well as formatting his testimony in epic poems which he recited at length, and soliciting legal advice from random spectators in the audience via passed notes. He dictated an autobiography to the New York Herald, ending it with a personal ad for a nice Christian lady under 30 years of age. He notoriously danced his way to the gallows and on the scaffold as a last request, he recited a poem he had written during his incarceration which he called I am Going to the Lordy. He had originally requested an orchestra to play as he sang his poem, but this request was denied.
