#ferguson this brought a tear to my eye. Id bet that #mikebrown would have liked this headline. I said Cpt. #ronjohnson might wake up tomorrow to find himself a household name. How did Captain Johnson pull off such a radical shift in the relationship between this community, still very angry and very hurt and the police? He did it by treating them with respect. He did it by taking command and making it very clear who was in charge and what the expectations were - and then he marched with them holding a picture of Michael Brown as if to say we can disagree about the HOW but we CANNOT disagree that the death of a teenager at the hands of the police is always a tragedy. This world could use a few more Captain Ronald Johnsons. He just showed us how to get a community on board with their police force. This community never wanted to riot - the knuckleheads on Sunday were seemingly a small number of bangers and thugs. Ferguson I said earlier the whole Country was watching. The Country watched last night and spoke AT FULL VOLUME with a clear voice that over reaching by law enforcement is not who we are. Those of you who say nobody cares, you just saw what happened - did the whole country speak out when a bunch of thugs went running around like hoodlums looting a cell phone store and a beauty supply store? The Country spoke with shocking unity this morning and said this is not who we are. When people looked at the pictures and listened to the Ferguson chief praise officer restraint and the County Police Chief not sounding much better in touch with reality, YOUR FELLOW AMERICANS - WHITE, BLACK, DEMOCRAT, REPUBLICAN, WHO CARES stood up and said not on my watch. Remember that in coming weeks as there are miles to go before we sleep on fair, impartial justice. Remember that for just a minute we were Americans again. Tonight, as the World watched you showed us all what your community is about and Captain Johnson taught us all a little something about how reconciliation begins. Id like the headline to be As Night Fell in Ferguson, Peace Rose to demand a fair and impartial investigation into the death of one young man whose death reverberated around the world. Captain Johnson, I salute you proudly, sir. Missouri State Highway Patrol
