ferndale mi is blessed with two distinct improv venues both on east 9 mile road about a mile apart each on opposite sides of the road Go comedy is your more traditional type of improv and has been around since 2008 in fact i was fortunate in having been in the first improv class taught by local improv legend p j jacokes the second improv group is comedysportz operated by mas heads rich goteri and rachel bullack it features an entire evening of games in a fictional sports setting even with a uniformed ref and plauers with red and blue jerseys with thier names on the back and fouls etc the kool thing about improvers is that while we both do shows and compete for audience we are not enemies a cross mingling of performers can be found i go to their shows and they have come to comedysportz shows we each admire good improv and entertaining your audience i do standup and improv comedy but in my opinion improv is so much harder wow creating a scene out of nothing no pre rehearsal while go comedy usduslly does shows geared to 18 and over and a bar for those 21 and over comedysportz does an all ages show with only soft drinks and bottled water in fact inappropriate words or actions bring on the dreaded brown bag foul where paper bag placed over offenders head for that game so chose your preference either way you re in for a grand nite of entertainment
