first consecutive triples happened today! i did it without shoes! second practice session for this week. the ugly truth during the learning phase. the rope has never hit my head when i was learning double unders. it has to do with the length of the rope and the height of my hand while rotating the rope but i wont be discussing about the height of my hand as i think it was consistent through the jumps. naturally, the shorter the jump rope, the lower height clearance i have. i can only jump up high enough to barely do the triples if i do not want to hit my head. this reinforces minimal impact on my knees and forces me to speed up on my wrist rotation speed. good for speed practice and concentration. however, if the rope is a little longer, one can jump higher. hence, there is more air time to do the triples. the wrist rotation speed can slow down a little and the leg have to do more work by bounding higher. good for training leg explosiveness. i did not have a choice to adjust the length of my jump rope to be longer because this is the longest since it snapped twice this year. this forces me to train with whatever i have and unconsciously forces me to train with strict form. either, i make it or break it. this might be one of the reasons why i progressed so fast though i faced alot of frustration and pain during practice. better and strict form is in accordance to competition standard where speed is one of the deciding factor in winning the competition. i am not implying that there is right or wrong length of rope or better form though i believe there is a proper form (to be more efficient and injury-free). it depends on each individual and their training goals. i feel that box jump is a better choice for pure explosiveness. jump rope is a combination of agility, anaerobic/aerobic, balance, concentration, coordination, rhythmic, speed which teaches one how to use the body as a whole. just sharing what i learn through my practice. pardon me if i bore some of you with this lengthy post. jump rope experts, do let me know your opinion about my discussion.
