from Kyle... We were like two kids (once again) as we climbed the stairs to the top floor of the barn following the owner. He was bringing us up to show us hooking patterns from the owner of the old shop where Jen used to purchase yarn in Kennebunk. Although this was Jen’s interest I felt her excitement and it felt as if we were in some way being let into the vault to discover the secret items stored behind. We searched among the stacks and cobwebs in the heat of the upper floor through what must have been thousands of patterns to find the few that Jen wanted including a hidden one of seashells. I looked at Jen’s face and could see the excitement in her eyes as she poured through the patterns. Her expressions and eyes made me feel comfortable, happy and I warmed at her excitement to make a rug for our soon to be new home. It was Sunday, our day alone that has become our day for adventure and exploring. We have started a tradition of steamers and beer at lunch on our day. It serves as a break from the busy days with kids, work, baseball, and the usual chores. It is our day to be together and experience something out of the ordinary. We are filling our bucket… As we headed home, in a very roundabout way that included new routes and a long dirt road, we let the hot air spill in through the windows. I watched Jen as she held her hand outside the window letting the air push her hand up and down as kids so often do. I did the same. We talked, laughed and had moments of silence as we drove along. I noticed a number of times that Jen sat quietly with eyes closed, hand out the window and a small smile across her face. I smiled back at her even though she could not see me, filled with love and excitement at what is coming our way. Our journey the past month has been a tough one but as we look forward to finding ourselves at the farm in South Berwick (fingers crossed) I was reminded that filling our bucket is what is important. Experiencing new things and growing with each other and our new family. Our fingers are crossed that the farm is what we call home but I know that I am already home. The time with Jen and the unit is cherished and our bucket gets a little fuller each day. I am blessed and happier than I have ever been. I smiled back again and let the air flow over my hand…up and down….up and down….
