governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, on Thursday said he was happy he left the Peoples Democracy Party, PDP. He was addressing lawmakers of his new party, All Progressives Congress, at the House of Representatives in Abuja, Thursday, after visiting its Speaker, Aminu Tambuwal. Mr. Kwankwaso said he was happy that he was in a party which had the power to defeat the PDP. “Since we now have quite a number of aspirants, all of us are working very hard especially those of us (who moved) from PDP; we have a huge advantage,” he said. “There are so many people who are tired of the status quo. Status quo is not good for the country therefore we have to work together.” He said the PDP had defeated itself. “All we need is to ensure that it does not rise,” he said. He expressed his delight at being part of the APC and thanked every other member of his party who joined in making the party what it is today. Mr. Kwankwaso also spoke on insecurity issues, including the Boko Haram insurgency in Nigeria and how it had to be addressed. He said that many people were kicked out of their houses due to insecurity mainly because the areas where they lived were highly targeted places for the terrorists to attack and yet no one was doing anything for them. He said everyone should have the liberty to live where they wanted and not run away from their homes because of insecurity which should be taken care of. He disclosed that the educational sector had improved tremendously in the Kano State, and schools and institutes were being built to encourage education. He said education was free up to tertiary level and any student who scored a first class or second class upper was granted an automatic scholarship to study outside Nigeria. He also said a school with Chinese teachers who taught Mandarin was opened in Kano for teachers, adding that the teachers would leave for China in a few weeks to perfect the language.
