had a great little ride tonite with both mares, Duska and Sky. As Duska is getting bored with little round pen lessons, it really seems to work best to do short trail rides where we actually do something. Tonite we did a lot of stopping and trimming brush from the saddle, hence she got to stand quietly with stuff pulled down around her head, walk a few feet forward and stop, back, etc. She did very well, and then got to finish the ride by going in front to the top-then leaving the other horse by herself. It sounds like little baby steps but that is what we want, all very calm and no problems. If you are wondering about the terrain, it is northern California. Barefoot, ridden in halter and treeless saddle. The last photo is me on Sky, the blue roan.
