had a very good day today! In building the porch from recycled materials, one of the steps in the project, so to speak, is placing the cast concrete steps salvaged from the demolition house. The unit is hollow and weighs about 400 pounds, and needed to be carried about 20 feet and placed on a concrete pad. I have about three dozen brothers in my motorcycle club I could ask for help, but they are in cities 30 to 50 miles away. I had occasion to have a chat with a local friend here in Two Harbors, and he volunteered to help. He said it was likely he could also get some other help from some of his co-workers. Well, I got things rigged up and made a call. in about 10 minutes here comes a truck with three strong guys willing to help out. We got the steps in place and had a little beer to commemorate the event. I thanked them profusely and will see to it that I get a bit of nylon strap back to its owner very soon. I do not mention the names here out of respect for their privacy - and the fact they did it during working hours.
