heads up for those of you who may be doing it, from CA today : This is an important road safety reminder from Cycling Australia regarding the use of motor cycles and other vehicles for coaching activities on public roads. Cycling Australia does NOT endorse coaches or their athletes to break state/territory road laws deliberately, in training sessions on public roads. As an accredited NCAS Cycling Australia coach, you must always maximise the safety of athletes under your instruction, as well as the impact and safety concerns of your training sessions on other road users whilst prescribing, or running training sessions on public roads. This includes, but is not limited to, the use of motorbikes, cars, or vans in the conduct of training sessions. Furthermore, instructing an athlete to break road laws deliberately in training cannot be endorsed by Cycling Australia. (E.g. an athlete following a motorcycle or other vehicle closely will be breaking tailgating laws in most States/Territories.) Please remember that road rules are developed for your safety. There is an onus on you as a coach that if you are delivering or prescribing training on public roads, you should make sure that you know and follow the road rules at all times. Yours sincerely, Brendan Brendan Moriarty National Manager, Coaching & Development | Cycling Australia
