hero napomo #7 i have a secret! i am a superhero. no. there is no wonder twin to activate. my foes don’t gravitate toward kryptonite. i don’t tear my shirt off and turn green. that’s not my superhero scene. and i don’t fly. it’s hard for big guys like me to get up off the ground. regardless, i have found this much to be true: i am a superhero. or at least it’s fun to think so. but when i have tenacity to suggest such a possibility out loud. the two year old in my life puffs her cheeks, rolls her eyes and says “noooo. you not a supa he-woe, you just you.” she’s right. i am just me. there is nothing extraordinary. i am not super. hero: a person distinguished, of courage or ability noted for brave deeds and nobility. we don’t know it yet, but you could be my hero. how i could be affected if you would do the things you could do. you might change my life. or his. or hers. the choice is yours to make so take just a moment and decide. we all run around in our own bubbles bouncing off everyone’s respective bubbles so carefully. like there is not enough soap in the water. all of us afraid if we stretch our skins a little thinner we will break. and so what if we do? if you fell? i would catch you. i really would. when did soft become the new hard? when did vulnerability become so rare it is too expensive to spend? me? being your hero? means you giving me the permission to extend myself to you. letting me. setting me free just enough to know you and be someone you can depend on. or you. introduce yourself and then be brave for her. put on your shiny new boots and satin cape and fly into her sense of humanity. help him carry his groceries home. buy the kid an extra pack of diapers. rake the neighbor’s leaves or just look him in the eye and say hello. we’ve stopped doing that, you know. too afraid of ex-ray vision and the decision to form a human connection we wouldn’t normally make. to be a superhero? that’s all you really need. just a little courage and one small deed.
