hotelsinmadrid/Pamplona.html Pamplona is famous worldwide for the San Fermín festival, from July 6 to 14, which features daily bullrun, or "Encierro" in Spanish, as one of the main attractions. The tradition involves people running in front of bulls and mainly takes place on the hill of Santo Domingo, continuing afterwards along several streets which leads to the Bullring. The old quarter, surrounded by walls and watched over by towers, is a medieval city of narrow streets, small squares, churches and noble houses. Most of this area is pedestrianised, and full of small shops, restaurants and bars. The oldest part of the old city is Navarrería, in the center of which stands the Cathedral of Santa María La Real. The cathedral complex was begun in the mid 13th century, on the site of a former Romanesque cathedral, and work on it was not completed until the 16th century. This magnificent building has three naves in Gothic style, as well as several Neoclassic additions. Next to the City Hall in the central plaza Consistorial is the Gothic church of San Saturnino, built in the 13th century. Its two towers give a glimpse of its former defensive function. The neighboring Cámara de Comptos from the 13th century is the oldest building in the city, and was the site of the former Court of Auditors of Navarre between the 14th and the 19th centuries. Pamplona has a little airport connected with several cities in Spain like Madrid and Barcelona. Nearby there are international airports like Bilbao (156 km), Zaragoza (170 km), or Biarritz in France (115 km). hotelsinmadrid/Pamplona.html
