how come cars have to pay to park downtown but bicycles dont? It it costing taxpayers money to maintain the bike paths and it also costs to set-up and maintain the new bike racks the city just put up. Just to maintain the green segregated bike lane downtown costs $9,000 annually. In 2018, the city wants to raise both segregated bike lanes to make them the same height as the sidewalks. It would cost about $940,000. The city uses the money from meters (for cars) to pay for improvements so why shouldnt everyone pay (obviously the charge would not be the same)
