https://youtube/watch?v=DpVJUPKklnE Moving to watch...always amusing to see how good Leamington looks on film when in reality the downtown they featured with Moes bar...thats a filthy strip of street & of all things...talk about going to street level with some of this...why news media thinks theyre going to get a wholesome view from the bar crowd. Theyd have been better off going next door to the IT. Thats where several regulars are Heinz employees, window & door, & road crew people hang out. Moes is where the scud goes. But that woman has one thing right...though its not visibly seen Leamington has a very concentrated underworld of drug use. Always has in the 24 years Ive lived here....cocaine is a big problem here. Otherwise...in this film, it looks pretty & idyllic. It is a great place to live...beach, water, sun...its the climate & proximity to the US that does it for most....plus the security to raise a family. The detractants....you can see some of the mild congestion (in this film) with the Mexican migrant workers uptown & the bicycles. Theres something not spoken to or equated; Heinz was the identity of this town, it was built around the factory...everything is about tomatoes. It hurts its gone because of the history & generations grew up with their family members working there. But notice how the migrant workers arent out of work....the hydroponic greenhouse industry is still going full steam. But theres no mention of the out of work people going to the agricultural sector...thats because they were getting union wages in the factory & theyd have to go to minimum wage working in a greenhouse at nearly double the amount of weekly hours. The government did buy the plant & its become Highbury/Canco for whatever its worth...but its also correct that there is nothing in this town to keep young people here....of course not. Leamington is heavily reliant on Windsor (where all the specialists & post-secondary institutions are). Were under threat now of losing our obstetrics dept. at the hospital which is odd since the million dollar expansion & inclusion of a womens health wing & the renovations/remodeling for a big kidney dialysis center. Theyre still trying to force the matter of a MEGA-hospital in Windsor & making everything from London, west, converge on Windsor so that all medical has to be accessed there. Again, that leaves Leamington in a bind as we have no external transit link-up to the city for anyone without a car or drivers license. Taxi is $140 round trip. There is much more hurting Leamington than the loss of history with the Heinz plant closure.
