And this is the key scene in the movie, explaining the impact special interest big money has on politicians taking positions on the issues. What is omitted from the scene is pressure from voters which can, under special circumstances, prevent the dominance of pure market considerations. But it requires extraordinary exertions and energy for common citizens to band together to counter the natural, default workings of the campaign spending system which forces politicians to seek out private wealth to sponsor their political careers.
