https://youtube/watch?v=aF439O_-jMM Earlier this year Hank Hanegraaff took this call from a Young Earth Creationist (of which I am one) in which he explained why he holds to an Old Earth view. I have some regard for Hanegraaff and the work he does defending biblical doctrine. One objection of note that he made was that if the world is only around 6000 years old, that would require us to believe that God created it with ‘the appearance of age’ since we see around us the appearance of much greater age. Such an idea would make God look deceitful in His creation. Now I’ve heard that one before. In considering this idea, it is important to point out that no one has any idea in the world what a 6000 Year Old Earth looks like compared to a 4.5 Billion Year Old Earth. You cannot hold them side by side and see the differences in geology, biology, paleontology, oceanography, etc. Further, you have to factor in the reality that the Earth has undergone two major changes since its creation: the Fall, and the Flood. In other words, you have no frame of reference from which to decide that the earth actually has the appearance of old age. How do you know that it doesn’t simply have the appearance of 6000 years that include a major curse and a global disaster? Additionally, consider that the framers of the current old earth paradigm did so specifically to remove consideration of the Flood from geology. 2 Peter 3: 3-6
