We happily prepare to give thanks a bit before we adorn our homes with gorgeous trees and hang our stockings. We hold each other. We share a wondrous time with family and thank our Triune GOD for all the graces he has bestowed upon us. The holy day season is beautiful. There, honestly, is nothing quite like it. But perhaps, we should rejoice for October 22nd. Perhaps October 22nd is a day of thanksgiving to the Lord as well. A day to celebrate Orthodoxy. A day to celebrate truth triumphant. Jesus Christ is the way, the TRUTH, Jesus Christ is our GOD and our SAVIOR. Fully GOD and FULLY man. And maybe if we just understood how PRECIOUS that TRUTH is..just maybe we would rejoice on October 22nd. On October 22nd of the year 451, the Early Church Council of Chalcedon affirmed the HISTORICAL TRUTH outlined in the CREED OF CHALCEDON It was on this date that the Holy Spirit helped move the Council in the proper direction. A direction that would forever be remembered as miraculous. After numerous sessions and gatherings in this Council by the Fathers , it was the FIFTH session that had every single bishop sign and AFFIRM that what is said in the Creed was a HISTORICAL TRUTH, ALWAYS believed and ALWAYS affirmed by the Church that Jesus, our GOD and Savior left us. Let it be emphasized how significant this date in time is. October 22, still at the height of the heresy that Arius set in motion to catapult a host of other heresies that opposed the truth of our GOD, Christ. And on this day, a Church with divisive bishops and priests. Some supporting viewpoints that diminished the Deity of our Lord. Some supporting anti-truths that over emphasized the Deity to the detriment of our GODs humanity..and of course ..amongst the embers of the Arian heresy that stood against the Scriptural Truths and the Historical Truths echoed in the Early Fathers... 520 Bishops Let me rephrase that ALL 520 BISHOPS present in this Council, EMPHATICALLY affirmed Following, then, the holy Fathers, we all unanimously teach that our Lord Jesus Christ is to us One and the same Son, the Self-same Perfect in Godhead, the Self-same Perfect in Manhood; truly God and truly Man; the Self-same of a rational soul and body; co-essential with the Father according to the Godhead, the Self-same co-essential with us according to the Manhood; like us in all things, sin apart; before the ages begotten of the Father as to the Godhead, but in the last days, the Self-same, for us and for our salvation (born) of Mary the Virgin Theotokos as to the Manhood; One and the Same Christ, Son, Lord, Only-begotten; acknowledged in Two Natures unconfusedly, unchangeably, indivisibly, inseparably; the difference of the Natures being in no way removed because of the Union, but rather the properties of each Nature being preserved, and (both) concurring into One Person and One Hypostasis; not as though He were parted or divided into Two Persons, but One and the Self-same Son and Only-begotten God, Word, Lord, Jesus Christ; even as from the beginning the prophets have taught concerning Him, and as the Lord Jesus Christ Himself hath taught us, and as the Symbol of the Fathers hath handed down to us. Pope Leo, in his staunch and heroic defense of our Lord, stood tall, in honor of the GREAT ATHANASIUS, in his Sermon on Lent, highlighting that, Pope Leo, Sermon on Lent For some are so ashamed of the Gospel of the Cross of Christ, as to impudently nullify the punishment which He underwent for the worlds redemption, and have denied the very nature of true flesh in the Lord, not understanding how the impassible and unchangeable Deity of Gods Word could have so far condescended for mans salvation, as by His power not to lose His own properties, and in His mercy to take on Him ours. And so in Christ, there is a twofold form but one person, and the Son of God, who is at the same time Son of Man, is one Lord, accepting the condition of a slave by the design of loving-kindness.. Believe the Son of God to be co-eternal with the Father by Whom all things were made and without Whom nothing was made, born also according to the flesh at the end of the times. Believe Him to have been in the body crucified, dead, raised up, and lifted above the heights of heavenly powers, set on the Fathers right hand, about to come in the same flesh in which He ascended, to judge the living and the dead. For this is what the Apostle proclaims to all the faithful, saying: if you be risen with Christ seek the things which are above, where Christ is sitting on the right hand of God. So I end this short commentary in telling you--celebrate October 22. Celebrate October 22nd with all your might and all your power. Today is our Lords Day. Thank you for the TRUTH of the Historical Scriptures, Your Church, and Your gorgeous splendid Tradition you have so graciously blessed us with. I fully give my heart to you!
