i have a question to all of you out there: A good friend has just given me LOTS of beautiful silk ties (real silk) to use in my art quilts. I dont do traditional quilting. I will most likely cut them up into pieces for applique. I havent worked with this material before. If anyone has, Id be interested to know how you handle the silk to keep it from fraying or raveling and what properties you have found about them that works well. Do you use fusible mesh or what? Fortunately not all are geometric, although they give me a new opportunity to explore the abstract world. Its a big leap for is realist. What have you done with them? Id love to see pics too. Thanks!
