i think i have cried more this week than any other one ever. and if you know me, then you know thats saying something because im a crier. luckily, it was mostly happy tears. big giant, emotional, overwhelmed, salty tears. you might be asking yourself why? well. first there is Heather Ames Kennedy. shes the heart of the group. its true, we gravitated together around and because of her. she leads us, we follow. she has a way about her, with our friends, where she gives them not only her time, her ear and her shoulder, but her genuine friendship. unconditionally. quite honestly, she makes you want to be your very best self and you feel honored to not only be her friend, but to just watch her in her element. and she is so damn humble shell wont think any of this is true. no worries, you can trust me, it is. then there is Jennifer Cannon. shes the silent partner. i say that because she is always making moves, having meetings, planning conferences, taking friends to appointments, picking people up, being the church van, spreading the word.... and she never mentions it. she is responsible for us getting our 501c3, she played a good size role in getting the rare breed kids to have shelter at venues, shes met with hospitals about their release policy for our friends so they arent let out of the building with nothing but the shirt on their back in the dead of winter, and more. and its completely under the radar. most people want even a teensy bit of credit for all their hard work, but not her. you dont find that quality very often. next we have Paige Payne. shes just the cook. and if you call cooking for 120 people every week, sometimes twice a week, all alone out of your kitchen, just cooking, then i guess she is. she was bringing food to the Vets and Bills place years before we even became a group. in fact, she was helping us with saturday and quietly doing her own meal sunday before we practically forced our help on her. her meals, well, they taste amazing. she cooks with her heart and our friends can tell. sometimes ill catch her asking people what they used to eat as kids, what their comfort foods are... then shell suddenly show up with 4 roasters full of it the next week. last but not least, my old friend Terra Salinas (not old in that way). we spent a good chunk of childhood together even though she was way cooler than me, and now, we find ourselves back together again. she is quickly becoming our biggest advocate. when you read our profiles of our friends, well thats all her. she has her own gaggle of kids, and still finds a way to be part parent, part bestie, part cheerleader, part guidance counselor, part hard ass, and part comedian to so many of our friends who just need a helping hand. im honored to call her friend and i take full credit for getting her in the group (even though i didnt have much to do with it :) ). i love these girls. i love this group. i LOVE so many of our friends. i love my life. i hope yours has changed for the better because of this as well
